The high percentage of newborns and adults with congenital heart defects admitted for in-patient treatment is an expression of the medical trend to act therapeutically early in the newborn or early infancy on the one hand and to realize the survival probability of patients into high adulthood by applying standardized treatment concepts on the other hand.
