Heart Catheter Examinations

Each year, between 600 and 700 cardiac catheterisations are carried out in a cardiac catheter laboratory specially designed for the needs of patients with congenital heart defects. 418 interventional cardiac catheterisation procedures represent approx. 70% of the procedure volume and thus demonstrate the special specialisation in minimally invasive therapeutic procedures. Not only can individual surgical steps be saved or better prepared during the course of treatment, but many operations can even be completely avoided. The invasive cardiac catheter examination thus represents an important treatment concept for congenital heart defects in combination with surgical care, with increasing diagnostic certainty due to non-invasive imaging techniques such as echocardiography and MRI. With its large interventional treatment program, the German Heart Center Berlin continues to be the leader in Germany.
