Our services

The Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité performs the entire spectrum of cardiovascular and thoracic operations, including coronary bypass surgery, heart valve surgery, operations for aneurysms and congenital heart defects and heart and lung transplantations. These procedures are performed routinely at our institution. In the field of ventricular assist devices, also known as artificial heart pumps, the German Heart Center Berlin has now treated more than 850 patients and has the most extensive experience worldwide of applying different support systems in adults and in children.

Review of Medical Records

If you wish to be treated at the Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité, our specialists will first review your medical history. On this basis they will make a preliminary assessment of the treatment required. For this purpose your records, including specialized test results, should be sent by fax, mail or email to the relevant department or to our International Office.

Cost Estimate / Appointments

Once your medical requirements have been ascertained, you will be advised of the possible duration of your stay at the Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité, the intended treatment plan and an estimate of all the costs.

For Patients of the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery and of the Department of Internal Medicine – Cardiology
Provided either your insurance company or you yourself undertake to pay these costs, we will then request that an advance deposit be paid into a specific bank
account of the Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité. Once this amount has been received, we will offer you an admission date.

For Patients of the Department of Congenital Heart Disease – Pediatric Cardiology and of the Department of Congenital Heart Surgery – Pediatric Heart Surgery
Provided either you or your insurance company are willing to cover the expenses, we will request a specific sum to be transferred in advance to the bank account of the Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité given on the treatment plan. As soon as the transfer has been confirmed by our bank we will arrange an appointment for your treatment. Of course, we will consider your wishes when finding an admission date.

Travel Assistance

For Patients of the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery and of the Department of Internal Medicine – Cardiology
Whenever necessary, the Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité will assist you in obtaining an entry visa for Germany by directly contacting the German Embassy in your home country.

For Patients of the Department of Congenital Heart Disease – Pediatric Cardiology and of the Department of Congenital Heart Surgery – Pediatric Heart Surgery
Whenever necessary, the Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité will assist you in obtaining an entry visa for Germany by sending you an official invitation for presentation at the German Embassy in your home country.

Accommodation

Unlike many other institutions, we have our own guesthouse, located in the hospital grounds, where family members and other individuals accompanying the patient can stay. These expenses are not included in the patient package price and must be borne individually.

You will find further detailed conditions regarding accommodation in our treatment proposal.

For patients from abroad we can cover the costs of accommodation for up to two people for the duration of inpatient treatment, in one of our apartments. This service, however, applies to patients under 18 years of age only.

Language Assistance / Interpretation Services

Should German not be one of your languages, we can provide an interpreter so that you can communicate freely with the doctors and nursing staff. However, most of our doctors and nurses speak English and some of them Russian.

We can also engage external interpreters for other languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French and Spanish. These expenses are not included in the patient package price and must be borne individually (except for Russian services).
