Origin of the Patients in 2018

In addition to the original health care tasks for Berlin and Brandenburg with 676 patients and a main focus on the eastern federal states, patients are also treated from all over Germany, which underlines the supra-regional focus centre character. 1205 hospital admissions for the treatment of congenital heart defects were recorded in 2018. The offer for the treatment of international patients with congenital heart defects was further developed, whereby the main recruitment area is predominantly Eastern Europe, especially from Russia and its neighbouring states.

Percentage origin of patients

Stationäre Aufnahmen n = 33.040

Every year more than 1200 patients with congenital heart defects are treated as inpatients and almost 5000 as outpatients. The percentage distribution of patients assigned to inpatient and outpatient treatment in Berlin, the surrounding area and throughout Germany has remained virtually unchanged over the past 10 years.

Ambulante Aufnahmen n = 98.684

The proportion of foreign patients was approximately 20% in the inpatient and 15% in the outpatient sector, which underlines the international reputation of the German Heart Center Berlin and in particular the high importance of international patient recruitment for the Clinic for Congenital Heart Defects.
