Operations and Catheter Interventions

The total number of patients with congenital heart defects treated at the German Heart Center Berlin with heart surgery or an interventional cardiac catheterization procedure was stable this year with 1076 patients compared to the previous year.
The slightly lower number of interventions goes hand in hand with the current shortage of specialized intensive care personnel throughout Europe. Despite the lower treatment numbers, the DHZB was again able to maintain its leading position among the specialized centers in Germany and, at the same time, in Europe. We are currently working very hard to compensate for the shortage of nursing staff and thus increase the number of patients to be treated again.
This will also enable us to significantly reduce the waiting times for elective surgery, but we will be able to provide adequate care for emergencies at all times, so that no gaps in care have arisen and we have always been able to fulfil our care mandate.
