Operations and Catheter Interventions

The total number of patients with congenital heart defects treated at the German Heart Institute Berlin with heart surgery or an interventional cardiac catheter procedure remained stable this year at 1064 patients compared to the previous year.
The slightly lower number of interventions is in line with the current shortage of specialized intensive care personnel throughout Europe. Despite the lower number of treatments, the DHZB was again able to maintain its leading position among the specialized centers in Germany and at the same time in Europe. We are currently working very hard to compensate for the shortage of nursing staff and thus increase the number of patients to be treated.
As a result, we will also be able to significantly reduce the waiting times for elective surgery again, but emergencies can and could be adequately treated at any time, so that no shortage of care occurred and we were always able to guarantee our care mandate.
