Research and Partnerships

Our multi-professional employees are innovators in a broad portfolio of research in the field of Cardiac Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, from basic research to clinical studies initiated by researchers and/or sponsored by industry to outcomes research. We have an ongoing collaboration with the Institute of Physiology and emerging joint projects with the Institute of Imaging Science and Computer Modeling in Cardiovascular Medicine.  We also entertain well-established cooperations with the Barts Heart Centre in London and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston that provide clinical and research opportunities.

Our ongoing and planned clinical studies:

  • Happymed study - Effect of audiovisual distraction on pain reduction during transcatheter aortic valve implantation under local anesthesia
  • pHT-study - Influence of immunological parameters on the development and progression of secondary pulmonary hypertension in patients with mitral regurgitation or patients scheduled for LVAD implantation
  • Tight K Study LINK - Prevention of Arrhythmias in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit - Is Maintaining Upper Normal Serum Potassium Levels Important?
  • Novartis study - An exploratory, two-part, sequential, observational, prospective cohort study to evaluate the performance of novel kidney biomarkers as early predictors of acute kidney injury (AKI) after surgery on cardiopulmonary bypass
