Akademie für Kardiotechnik Intro

Academy for Perfusion

The broad, diversified spectrum of training at the Academy for Perfusion - complemented by comprehensive practical experience - equips every graduate to deal with future developments in medical technology in therapies and diagnostic procedures associated with heart surgery, cardiology, pediatric cardiology and cardiac anesthesiology.

In spring 1988, at the initiative of Prof. Dr. Roland Hetzer, the first training program at the German Heart Institute Berlin's newly founded Academy for Perfusionists (AfK) began. It covered four semesters and included both theory and practice. German government recognition of this training, as well as the official professional designation "Perfusionist", was granted in 1991.
