Intraoperative Transesophageal Echocardiography
Transesophageal echocardiography at the DHZB has been developed into a modern procedure for cardiac diagnostics and patient monitoring. The Institute for Anesthesia is an international reference center for echocardiography in anesthesia.
Echocardiography is a semi-invasive procedure that provides the surgeon with anatomic and functional information that cannot be gained from any other monitoring process.
It has been shown that in 30-50% of patients intraoperative echocardiography yields new information that significantly influences the treatment given. At the DHZB intraoperative cardiography is performed by anesthetists in cooperation with cardiologists.
Since 2000 a TEE course (in German) with European certification has been regularly organized for anesthetists. The Institute for Anesthesiology at the DHZB has been an international reference center for echocardiography in anesthesia since 2003.
