The Guest-House Axel Springer has 35 rooms with 56 beds: 17 double and 18 single rooms. One of the double rooms has facilities for the disabled. Each room has an en suite shower or bath and toilet, a telephone, TV, radio, mini-bar and electric hairdryer. The breakfast facilities and lounges are tastefully and generously appointed, and the friendly service offered by the staff is the hallmark of the hotel's hospitality.
Patients of the Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin and individuals accompanying them are extended special rates.

In 1988, through a generous donation of six million marks from the private assets of the publisher Axel Springer, it was possible to undertake the renovation and expansion of one of the hospitals adjacent structures, which had been a former administration building of what was then the Rudolf Virchow Hospital. This attractive building became the guest-house of the German Heart Institute Berlin.

The availability of this facility permits the German Heart Institute to offer services on a par with those of the world renowned heart centers in Genolier, Switzerland; Houston, Texas; and Cleveland, Ohio. The principal occupants of the guest-house are patients of the German Heart Institute Berlin and their family members. Parents and other adults accompanying patients who are children also have the possibility of residing at the the Ronald McDonald house in the nearby Seestrasse.

The close proximity of relatives or friends has a markedly positive influence on the psychological well-being of the patients, which in turn has a positive influence on the recovery process. The loving care and attention of their parents is particularly crucial to children.

Patients who come to Berlin from abroad for treatment at the German Heart Institute Berlin or at the Charité Hospital are warmly received at the Guest-House Axel Springer. They and their companions can stay at the guest-house for the period of the preoperative and post-operative examinations.

With the integration of the guest-house into the overall hospital organization, the co-ordination of admission, pre-operative diagnosis and monitoring check-ups is streamlined, with the result that the actual duration of the stay may be shortened.

The guest-house also offers its well-priced and comfortable accommodation to people attending conferences and seminars at the German Heart Institute Berlin and the Charité.
