On September 1 the chairman of the DHZB, Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. Roland Hetzer, received an honorary doctorship from Moscow’s Lomonosow State University. The academic celebration was preceded by a scientific lecture by the deacon, Prof. Acad. Viktor Sadownichi, who is also vice president of the Russian Academy of the Sciences, and was attended by almost 4000 students, for whom the new academic year was beginning.

Russian state television broadcast a piece about the event, which was also attended by the Minister of Justice. The rector honored Prof. Hetzer for his long-standing contribution to the furtherance of medical ties between Russia and Germany and for the cooperative agreement, signed in the fall, between Lomonosow State University Moscow and the DHZB. The elderly Russian doctor and scientist Prof. Tschasow was also made an honorary doctor.

In the afternoon the guests were shown around the new, not quite finished, Medical Center, which has 8 operation rooms and 300 beds for surgical and cardiac surgical patients, by the prorector, Dr. Yuri Belenkow. At the festive evening meal Prof. Hetzer expressed his thanks for the high honor accorded to him and his hope that the cooperation agreement, about which he is very pleased, will be to the long-term scientific advantage of both institutions.
