Aftercare
After your operation and the intensive care phase of your recovery, if no pressing reasons speak against it, you will be moved to one of our specialist wards in the Paulinen Hospital. You will remain there until you are discharged to go home or to a rehabilitation centre to recover further. If it is medically feasible and if your health insurance provider agrees, you may alternatively be transferred to a specialist ward of another partner hospital.
The DHZB is a highly specialized, high-performance hospital for cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery and its capacity is extremely limited. Therefore it can only offer beds to patients with the most acute medical needs. The DHZB’s wards in the Paulinen Hospital are available for preoperative treatment of our patients (1-2 days before their operations in the DHZB), for follow-up treatment after heart surgery, for those with circulatory support systems (“artificial hearts”), for dialysis patients, and for patients before or after pacemaker implantation. Altogether these are approximately 85% of our patients.
In the Paulinen Hospital you will be treated by DHZB doctors and by others who have been mentored by our Chairman, Prof. Dr. Roland Hetzer, and trained in accordance with the requirements of the DHZB.
Facilities at the "Pauline"
The DHZB has equipped the Paulinen Hospital with the most modern diagnostic equipment, including a spiral computer tomography machine, as well as with two operating rooms and an intensive care ward. The Paulinen Hospital also has facilities for outpatient follow-up care.
On the 6th floor the DHZB maintains a private ward that has been given the name “Andalusia” because of its southern European flair. The spacious patient accommodation, with its carefully concealed medical installations, resembles luxurious hotel suites rather than hospital rooms. There is also accommodation for relatives of the patients or for their employees and security personnel.
