Origin of the Patients in 2019

Besides the original health care tasks for Berlin and Brandenburg with 665 patients and a main focus on the eastern states, patients from all over Germany are also treated, which underlines the supra-regional focus center character. Nearly 1200 inpatient admissions for the treatment of congenital heart defects were recorded in 2019. The range of services for the treatment of international patients with congenital heart defects has been further developed, with the main recruitment area being Eastern Europe, especially from Russia and its neighboring countries.

Percentage origin of patients

Every year, around 1200 patients with congenital heart defects are treated as inpatients and almost 5000 as outpatients. The percentage distribution of patients assigned to inpatient and outpatient treatment from Berlin, the immediate surrounding area and throughout Germany has remained virtually unchanged over the last 10 years. The percentage of foreign patients was about 20% in inpatient and on average about 15% in outpatient treatment, which underlines the international reputation of the German Heart Center Berlin and especially the high importance of international patient recruitment for the Clinic for Congenital Heart Defects.
