Abteilung Kinderkardiologie klein

Range of Procedures Available

All invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in patients of all age-groups with congenital heart disease and in children with acquired heart disease (including premature and newborn infants)

  • The whole spectrum of procedures for diagnosis and treatment in patients of all ages with congenital heart defects and in children (including premature and newborn infants) with acquired heart disease. With supraregional 24-hour emergency service.

  • Treatment of patients of all ages with congenital heart disease and of children with acquired heart disease (including premature and newborn infants) directly before and after cardiac or vascular surgery

  • State-of-the-art cardiac and vascular diagnostics using non-invasive imaging procedures (3-D echocardiography, magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography)

  • Enlargement of constricted heart valves using a special catheter technique

  • Opening of closed heart valves by high-frequency electro treatment

  • Closure of defects of the atrium and the ventricular septum by placement of a special device implanted during catheterization

  • Non-surgical treatment of leaks and constriction of the valve to the pulmonary artery (pulmonary valve) by the implantation of a prosthetic heart valve (Medtronic Melody®) using a special catheter technique

  • Interventional closure of defects in the atrial septum without the use of X-ray

  • Treatment of constriction of vessels in the proximity of the heart in infants and small children by placement of a special internal vessel support (a “growth stent”) that adapts to the growth of the child

  • Interventional treatment of severe narrowing of the aorta (the main artery of the body) with coated vessel prostheses

  • Pacemaker implantation to optimize the heart action in children with heart failure synchronization by means of triple-chamber pacemaker)

  • Highly advanced therapeutic procedures to suppress severe heart rhythm disturbances by implantation of defibrillators (AICD) and aggregates for single, double and triple chamber stimulation

  • Treatment of children and adults with elevated lung pressure (pulmonary hypertension)

  • Perioperative monitoring of the cerebral circulation using non-invasive procedures (neuromonitoring, e.g. by near infrared spectroscopy, NIRS)

  • Non-invasive monitoring of the heart and circulation by electrical velocimetry to measure the heart stroke volume and cardiac output ("Aesculon®")
